Custom Denture Clinic

Just like natural teeth, dentures can accumulate plaque and debris that needs to be removed for a clean and healthy mouth. It’s important to maintain your false teeth so that they last and can provide you with the support you need. Today we’re going to explain how to clean dentures, to enable you to maintain a high standard of oral health.

When you receive your denture your dentist will talk you through your care instructions and explain how to clean dentures. Make sure you raise any queries or concerns so that you are comfortable about cleaning false teeth once you are on your own.

How To Clean Dentures Every Day?

Just like your natural teeth, your false teeth need to be kept clean every day. Dentures should be removed before cleaning with a soft toothbrush and denture toothpaste. Once you have brushed them carefully, and removed any food particles, you can rinse them with cold water.

It is good practice to give your gums some rest by keeping your false teeth out overnight. You can dry your dentures and put them in their case, or leave them in a glass of water overnight.

Don’t forget to brush your gums and tongue, as well as any remaining natural teeth in your mouth after cleaning false teeth.

Soaking Your False Teeth

You get special denture cleaning tablets that can be used to soak full or partial dentures. These are added to a glass of water to dissolve into the solution and do a good job at softening any build-up that occurs. You can also use a solution of alf water and half white vinegar, but this should only be used on full dentures, as the acidity may corrode the metal component of a partial denture.

  • You should brush and rinse your denture before putting it back into your mouth.
  • Discard any used solution immediately after use and don’t reuse it.
  • Pay attention to the state of the dentures. If you notice any build up or debris that is not coming off with regular cleaning, contact your dentist for help.

Remember:

Be sure to use a soft bristled toothbrush so you don’t scratch or damage your denture. Also, make sure to use toothpaste specific for false teeth as conventional toothpastes may contain abrasives or substances that affect the material of your denture.

Half fill the bathroom basic with water, and clean your false teeth over the basin so that, if you do drop them, you won’t damage or break them.

In the event that your denture does become damaged or breaks you must stop wearing it immediately, otherwise it can do damage to your mouth and soft tissues. Ill-fitting dentures can cause sores and irritation in your mouth. If you do develop sore spots you can rinse your mouth gently with salt water until you can see your dental practitioner. Don’t try to fix it yourself; we can assist you with emergency denture repair.
